Easy way to write pinyin with an occidental keyboard ?

Is there an easy way to write pinyin with tone with an occidental keyboard ?

I would think the easiest way is with the compose key. But apparently you can also do it with an IME like ibus or scim.

I don't think so. You could either write a normal u with the tone, or use v instead of ü, which is common practice.

Thanks for the trick with the v but my config doesn't accept it. I search for a solution to add these sequences, I don't see why adding an accent on a v is not possible.

Do you have to add something ? (I use a French localization on my config)

Eventually, I found how to write the ü characters with tone.

The compose key accepts more than one accent:

 _+"+u -> ǖ
