|
|
I have an old lenovo lap-top that I have been trying to install Gentoo on, and I have an issue with boot. In following the handbook I decided to go with Lilo as my boot loader, however when I boot up my system I get a "grub rescue" prompt. I have double checked everything (to the best of my ability) but the boot still protests.
Is my question to vague? Do I need to add more? +what

Something is surely wrong if you get the Grub prompt when you go with Lilo. If that is true, Lilo is not installed (where it should be). If you get the Grub shell, it is because Grub do not find his files in the partition where it look. If you have a boot partition you must specify it has the partition where Grub and Lilo should look at when you install them, not the root partition of Gentoo. _________________ Paul |

I re-emerge Lilo just to make sure it installed and is in the right place.
In addition this is what I have in my /etc/lilo.conf nano was used to edit the file
boot=/dev/sda1
prompt
timeout=50
default=gentoo
image=/boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-3.7.10-gentoo
label=gentoo
read-only
root=/dev/sda3
append="video=uvesafd:mtrr,ywrap.1024x768-32@85
append="real_root=/dev/sda3"
initrd=/boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-3.7.10-gentoo
append="init=/bin/bb"
Is the lilo.conf my issue?
Just an update lilo -v wrote to the MBR, but still booting to the grub rescue. I checked bios for anything funny and nothing seemed strange.
Still no boot.
FIXED!!!! If anyone else has this issue I recommend they look at /mnt/gentoo/etc/lilo.conf.example |
