Hi Guys,
What packages are essential to you when building your Gentoo servers?
Every server has its specific apps to do its job i know that, but theres always some that people cant live without....
Just interested to know what these are....

I run no server at the moment, but i'm working on clustering my computers and run some servers on them.
I'd say you should look for programs that provide security and ease of management first and depending on what you do you might not need graphical display support, but maybe some programs that use your gpu processing power could be usefull if supported by your application.
A good firewall with iptables and a logger like metalog would be pretty useful, especially if your server connects outside your private network. |
