11,500 years is not a "long range" study of terrestrial climate change. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

No, it isn't, which is why the change over the last ~100 yrs is so significant. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

| Quote: | | A heat spike like this has never happened before, at least not in the last 11,300 years, said climatologist Shaun Marcott, who worked on a new study on global temperatures going back that far. |
In other news, a traffic accident as bad as the recent one on I80 has never happened before, at least not in the last two weeks. |

There seems to be a lack of understanding of how extreme the size and speed of the human-induced spike really is.
Imagine for a moment that normal climate is a bicycle. In the first part of the graph, it's being pedalled hard in a sprint. Speed increases rapidly. Then the rider takes a break, stops pedalling and starts coasting. Speed declines slowly.
Finally, right at the end, the bicycle accelerates so fast it's like someone attached a couple of jet engines and fired up the afterburners.
That's how f*cked up the climate is. It's about as normal as a fossilised giraffe in a pre-cambrian shale. _________________ the underlay overlay |

A damn good thing we are warming the planet. _________________ I am not young enough to know everything.

If someone feels cold, you turn the heating up a little. While technically correct, it would normally be thought excessive to 'warm them up' with a flamethrower. _________________ the underlay overlay |
