I'm looking at installing a new gentoo on my old netbook. It's wireless doesn't work quite right anymore and I decided it would make a good xbmc machine to put behind my TV. I eventally plan to use the netbook's screen to display gkrellm on the side.

I'm thinking of putting a good part of the install on a flash card. I was wondering what FS you guys would recommend for it.

Note that portage as well as any media it'll play is going to sit over the (wired) network.

Edit: to add a litle clarity

madchaz,

For such a system, I would recommend PXE booting with root over NFS.
Everything else will be over the network anyway.

If PXE booting is a step too far put /boot on the flash and everything else over NFS.

Choose a non journalled filesystem for FLASH, ext2 or ext4 with the journal off.

I could do pxe, but it's a bit more trouble then I feel like going throught. The idea to put it on flash was mostly for faster startup. I tried ext2 and a few others and found myself very disapointed with the speed of the card. (It's cheap) so decided to just install on the existing internal HD. If that fails, I'll probably switch to pxe or get one really cheap where I work.
