|
|
I wanted to share the efforts I made to get Gentoo working on Hosteurope's Virtual Server
Basically I mixed two other HowTos:
1) https://mark.ossdl.de/2010/02/gentoo-on-a-linux-vserver-partition-with-wrong-initstyle/
2) http://wiki.byte-welt.net/wiki/Gentoo_vServer_Installation
Getting the system on, via rescue image, is not too difficult. Getting network configuration up until SSH is possible was kinda nifty.
HowTo 2) is really outdated, so I started with HowTo 1) using a latest Stage3.
You can leave out the net.vserver stuff. Also you have to kick udev from boot sequence: rc-update del udev
It would cause the boot up to stop.
After all this is done, switch over to HowTo 2) for network configuration.
You will need to chroot WITH mounts hanged on. Then try to:
If this does not work out, get a latest portage snapshot and extract into /usr/ (within chroot)
Then try to:
In my case, it failed due to memory issues.
I had a look at and killed udev, udevadm and cron
Also I edited make.conf to have CFLAGS without pipe.
All for saving memory.
Then I emerged iproute with all USE flags of the package disabled.
Afterwards you have to apply the network configuration from HowTo 2)
After leaving repair mode from hosteurope's control panel, you should reach your system with ssh.
Now you have enough resources to reemerge all the stuff. |
