Click on Audience.
Gentoo has a much mature audience; the average age is higher, more people are graduates, and more people visiting Gentoo have jobs and lastly, lower amount of women on Gentoo forums is seconded by the above facts.
So it's high popularity vs high quality.
Therefore people on sevenforums warrant a 'button clicking kids' title. _________________ Buy from companies supporting opensource -- IBM, Dell, HP, Hitachi, Google etc...

Apples and Oranges. One site is a group some of the most computer-savvy people around, and the other site is a bunch of hapless lemmings who can't even figure out how to use Windows. Of course they're going to have weak demographics. I bet there's also a lot more lol-speak on that site. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Gentoo Forums has a sucky one-star user rating, given us by the one review that has been done (click the "reviews" tab):
| Quote: | | Comments: Banned me from the forum for using a feature that was allowed (I guess I wasn't supposed to use it even though it was allowed). Disappointing, but I would have been OK with just that. However, then they added my email address to a database of blacklisted emails without telling me about it; I had to find that out on my own. Now I have to jump through hoops to remove it... If you sign up for the site, I suggest you not use an email address you're fond of. |

It's much lesser than you think! Cause we have NO active women here! If there is we assume it to be a man with HUGE balls, which's actually needed to handle Gentoo.

Actually, if you move around the forum, most of them will be asking to solve unknown Windows errors, for e.g. one of them complains, there's no hair left to pull out; which's unfortunately the case with me too. Here I'm forced to use Wine, cause it's much more reliable on GENTOO (rolling release, mixed branch, source based, highly customizable and so error prone) even. _________________ Buy from companies supporting opensource -- IBM, Dell, HP, Hitachi, Google etc...

I know of at least 4 female users, of which 2 are writing posts now and then and 3 of them are on IRC.
I know that one is actively trying to come over as male, since she already had problems getting accepted as a female, constant request ('pics or didn't happen', 'tits or gtfo', etc).
As for the other mentioned forum, never seen that before. _________________ ++++++++++[>+++++++>++++++++++>+++>+<<<<-]>++.>+.+++++++..+++.>++.<<+++++++++++++++.>.+++.------.--------.>+.>. |

In my experience what is "assumed" is that a woman is a "troll" ... with "HUGE balls" ... unless otherwise identified. Meaning: argumentation can only be manish ... or trollish. The former is the defacto assumption, as the standard reckoning is that you are male ... unless otherwise unidentified, and the latter the *only* other possible account. Given there is no check-box for "gender", and so NO reason to assume the numbers of woman represented, it should be likewise given that not everyone is operating with the same intention with regard to their presentation, and method of discussion. If woman are under represented (or altogether absent) there is probably some underlying reason why this might be the case, no?
Indeed, there are "NO active woman here", as this *fact* is a reality which woman have to constantly account for ... and so go elsewhere, or let the assumption ride, or assume an alter-identity, or be judged a "troll".

I understand the pressures involved to assume another identity, but the fact is, no one should have to provide any clue as to what gender they are as it simply shouldn't matter. The fact that it obviously does (for avoiding "requests", or for the sake of "getting accepted") says more about the negative effect of gender identification. If no one (including males) made it a point of fact, then there would be far less value placed on its importance, and more recognition that, indeed, woman are represented (to some degree), and a wider acceptance that not everyone here is speaking in the male vernacular (or, at least, the *assumption* of difference is given). I'm for a big f***-off! to the question, I neither want to have to make it a point of fact, or to add myself to the list of the non-existent for the sake of statistics ... it would however be something of a small respite if people stopped making the assumption either way and left the question open.

Since you're German, you should respect the etymology of "geek", which means "fool".
| Quote: | This word comes from English dialect geek, geck: fool, freak; from Low German geck, from Middle Low German. The root geck still survives in Dutch and Afrikaans gek: crazy, as well as some German dialects, and in the Alsatian word Gickeleshut: geek's hat, used in carnivals.[1] The Swedish transitive verb gäcka (to outsmart, to fool) has the same root; att gäcka rättvisan (to escape justice by clever tricks) is a set expression.
Formerly, in 18th century Austria-Hungary, Gecken were freaks shown by some circuses. In 19th century, in North-America, the term geek referred to a freak in circus side-shows (see also freak show).[citation needed] The 1976 edition of the American Heritage Dictionary included only the definition regarding geek shows. |
I don't think what she/he said seemed foolish. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

alexa is not accurate.
i run an internet company. we own dozens of sites and once you get a site out of the "no one comes here" zone, there's no correlation between alexa rankings and pageviews, visits, or revenues. |

BoneKracker ... what are you saying exactly, that the *fact* having been established ushers in some as yet inoperative rule? So, why invoke a cliché, and what purpose does it serve? Is this some "communication" that your "species" has on hand for such an event ... is this what passes for communication?
| BoneKracker wrote: | | inb4 somebody (most probably a European) haplessly blurts "tits or gtfo" for lack of anything better to say. |
Not sure what your getting at here, anyhow, "tits or gtfo" is the least of it, and easily ignored. It has already been established that there are "NO active women here", that woman will either assume an alter-indentity, remain incognito, join the ranks of an alien species, go elsewhere, etc, etc ... you can take this as entirely unrelated to the persons, culture, modes of communication, etc on FGO ... or deny any casual relation whatsoever ... but such a stance would, as I initially posted, have to account for the underlying reasons why this might be the case ... and without invoking tired clichés.
