Hi all,
I just (few hours ago actually) upgraded to KDE 4.10 and fortunately I haven't encountered (yet at least) any of the issues that I am seeing on other post on this section.

Still I am missing a feature that I was deeply looking forward in 4.10 that is the support for MTP devices (in specific I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII).

Until up few days ago I was using various semi-automatics commands and packages suggested in http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-926854.html and http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/MTP. but as I made a clean Gentoo install (for other reasons) in the last few days, I have yet to re-implement those procedures because I was hoping that KDE 4.10 would have taken care of the mounting/umounting natively.

I tried to search around and in many places I see that I should have kio-mtp, but I don't see on the Gentoo Portage tree and searching on-line I find it only on Layman overlays (http://gpo.zugaina.org/kde-misc/kio-mtp/) and it is '-9999' that as far as I understood it means that is not considered 'stable' (is it correct?).

Am I missing something? How can I enable it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I had the exact same issue. Basically you have two options:

You can copy this text into the location specified and use a "local overlay" that way:

/usr/local/portage/kde-misc/kio-mtp/kio-mtp-9999.ebuild:
Code:

# Copyright 1999-2012 Gentoo Foundation
# Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2
# $Header: $

EAPI=4
KDE_SCM="git"
inherit kde4-base

DESCRIPTION="MTP KIO-Client for KDE"
HOMEPAGE="https://projects.kde.org/projects/playground/base/kio-mtp"

LICENSE="GPL-2"
SLOT="4"
KEYWORDS=""
IUSE="debug"
DEPEND="
        >=media-libs/libmtp-1.1.3
"
RDEPEND="
        ${DEPEND}
"

For me (Galaxy Note2) this is pretty unstable, sometimes it works, most of the time I have to reconnect several times until it works. This ebuild will pull the changes from the source website, every time you run it. My impression, it improves.

Or you could just use layman to add the KDE overlay, to which the ebuild has just been added.
See here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=448640

There is also an app in the SGS3 section of the XDA-developers forum called "SGS3 easy UMS", which restores the old behaviour for the external SD card and mounts that as a storage device, like it was on older Android devices.

Hope that helps you, cheers

Opted for this and it works.

Thank you very much Martux.
