Hi all,

I still like firefox, although sometimes it's a pain in the ass. Therefore, I am often eager to install
updates as soon as I get them announced by its internal update checker. An updated ebuild will
most likely be available after a couple of days(hours), but still, impatience is killing me.
(No offense to the developers and package-maintainers. I praise their work.)

For firefox-bin~ I just observed, that it is possible to start it as root and use the internal
update-mechnism. What do you think about that way of updating ?

Is there a general advice on how to deal with built-in updaters in tools like eclipse, jenkins,
android-sdk, xy java stuff ?

Yours sincerely.

Never use anything else than Portage for installing packages since it puts the files outside of packager managers control.
Causing files to be orphaned, and in worst case, leaves the files with the vulnerabilities in place.
Use local overlay to raise the version number if you are impatient.
