this problems been blocking net-im/telepathy-mission-control on my system, i did revert back to gnome2 for a bit but emerge world and revdep rebuild want me to go back to gnome3 and who am i to object. i have broken packages either way and i like having a gnome2 laptop and gnome3 desktop.

also cannot compile gnome-base/gnome-control-center and this is completely stopping my machine from booting gnome3.

libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib64/libgudev-1.0.la' or unhandled argument `/usr/lib64/libgudev-1.0.la'

googling libgudev shows tons and tons of bug hits for .la missing. its strange this system would get it, and id not even notice it on my laptop. im going to see if its on my laptop to move over to here.

Code:

mkultra@mksrv [ ~ ]$ sudo emerge --info '=net-im/telepathy-mission-control-5.14.0-r1'
Portage 2.1.11.31 (default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop/gnome, gcc-4.6.3, glibc-2.15-r3, 3.7.1 x86_64)

Delete every .la file from your system which has a reference to libgudev-1.0.la (or at least convert them to say -lgudev-1.0 instead of having hardcoded path to non-existing .la file)

You can find them in dirs like /usr/lib/, /usr/lib64, /usr/local/lib/, ... so you could use command like:

Code:

# find /usr/ -name '*.la' -exec grep libgudev-1.0.la {} +

libtool records it like that to .la files (.la == libtool archive)
but if package has a shared library (.so) like libfoobar.so then you can just use -lfoobar and you don't need libfoobar.la at all
and if package has a pkg-config file that records Libs.private: then it should be used for static linking BUT if it doesn't exist
then this record is also available in the .la file
so what happened here is that the unrequired libudev.la and libgudev.la got removed propably because the automatic check, prune_libtool_files, used in the ebuild, detected correct pkg-config (.pc) file and deleted the libtool archive (.la) in favour of it

most people learned howto deal with these kinds of situations from the libpng update news item, and forums thread a while back (back then libpng12.la disappeared when libpng14.la was introduced)

mark the thread solved :P
