Hi
I am trying to update a system which has not been updated in ages.
Code:
Linux aim-axolotl 2.6.39-gentoo-r3 #1 SMP Wed Sep 7 18:48:10 CEST 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5607 @ 2.27GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Obviously, i run into several problems.
When i try to emerge poppler it has an error:
Code:

I actually want to build a new kernel, but i would prefer to get things in order before doing that...

Can anybody help me here?
Thank You
Jody

There's an obvious answer in that question: you've got trash in /usr/local.

You have libpng libraries in /usr/local/lib, but none should be there. Something, probably you, installed libpng by hand at some point. The libraries in /usr/local/lib are conflicting with the libpng installed by the system. Clean the trash out of /usr/local and try again.

/usr/local
ist the last resort if a problem occurs which your distribution cannot solve. But after some times there the next problem will be, because this place isn't maintained but by your own hands.
