Hi

I want to setup my Raspberry Pi as a mail/web (LAMP) server and I am considering either Gentoo or OpenWRT to run it all. Bearing in mind I have limited Linux experience to date, I would be interested in some opinions as to the better choice for me and why.

Also, does Gentoo on the RPi support all features (hard float, GPIO's, etc.)?

Thanks

Gentoo will work fine and it was actually the first distro to support hardfloat on the Pi. You can use the GPIO pins via dev-libs/bcm2835.
However, compiling things on the Pi is very slow, especially if you do it on the SD card. Read the embedded handbook for ideas to speed up software installation with a fast build host.

OpenWrt will be fine too, but they do their own kernel thing and whether the standard tools/libraries will work with that is something you might find out only after installing it.

icedaddy,

Welcome to Gentoo.

Gentoo on Pi works fine. It will be a wonderful learning experience for you too.

Thanks guy's for the comments and the welcome. I think I'll give Gentoo a try - it certainly will be a learning experience.
