Sounds like a fairly solid b-movie plot, of a movie probably called "Crocodile" with Christian Slater as the hero, with many straight to DVD sequels with Charlie Sheen as the hero (or some other drugged out actor).

First, there would have to simultaneously be some kind of chemical or biological accident that makes the crocodiles develop telepathic communication and a hive-mind of rapidly growing intelligence and malicious intent. To make this socially relevant (i.e., to appeal to the lemmings), this could be the fault of evil corporations, the stupid military, and three-toothed rednecks.

When somebody gets bitten, they start turning into a crocodile. And it turns out the crocodiles are the dormant reproductive stage of a race of intelligent, hive-minded dinosaurs that's been waiting, in dumb, slow-moving crocodilian form, for the Earth to warm back up, which humans have now stupidly done for them.

Their reinvigorated form is raptor-like, and they love to go racing through the woods, chasing down ignorant, three-toothed rednecks who don't believe in evolution or global warming, and whose guns and bibles are no help!

Many of those places (alligator farms here) do have some asshattery like some guy sticking his head between their jaws. Occasionally there's an accident.
