Hi

I have problems updating python from 3.2.1-r1 to 3.2.3-r2

THe ebuil compiles and then remains stuck here:
Quote:
i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -pthread -shared -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -L. -Wl,--no-as-needed -o libpython3.so -Wl,-hlibpython3.so libpython3.2.so
i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -pthread -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -L. -Xlinker -export-dynamic -o python Modules/python.o -L. -lpython3.2 -lpthread -ldl -lutil -lm
^C
Exiting on signal 2
sandbox:stop caught signal 2 in pid 11590
sandbox:stop signal already caught and busy still cleaning up!
^Csandbox:stop signal already caught and busy still cleaning up!
^Csandbox:stop signal already caught and busy still cleaning up!

It doesn't exit/die on ctrl-c. I tried several times, always the same problem.

The machine is not overbusy, but the process remains stuck, as can be seen here:

I have this setup currently:
Code:

think ~ # eselect python list
Available Python interpreters:
  [1]   python2.5
  [2]   python2.7 *
  [3]   python3.2

Any ideas?

It might help if you had "python" in the thread title.

I have the exact same problem with python-3.2.3-r2 on one of my machines (a Pentium III).

I first noticed it while doing an 'emerge -e world' after upgrading gcc to 4.6.3. I think I had already upgraded python to 3.2.3-r2 successfully under the previous gcc, but I'm not sure. The only other thing notable about the machine is that it only has 192 MiB of RAM (doesn't need much to do its job).

A couple of days ago I searched bugzilla to see if anybody had created a bug for this, but I didn't find anything. Feeling it must be me, I decided to wait a few days and try to build it again.

Hi,

I too have a Pentium III machine, I have more ram 512MB + Swap and as you can see it is not used up at all.
I tried several times even by leaving up the machine for hours, no help, it remains at 100% cpu.

I too have gcc 4.6.3

I noticed I had -O3 optimization set on this box for some reason (which we are now expressly advised by Gentoo developers is inadvisable as a global setting and unsupported). I'm not sure this is the issue, but I changed it to -O2, rebuilt the toolchain, then emerge -e world, and everything seems fine.
