OMG

I ran fsck.ext4 -ccDfttyv -C 0 /dev/sda2 which used to be a windows partition. However I deleted it and made it into an ext4 linux partition. It is about 300 gb. Running aforementioned command line command, it takes a PAINFULLY long time to go through. In fact, after showing 5/0/0 errors, I stopped the service. This is after about 5 hours of time. 5 HouRS!!!! I know there are badblocks on that partition. God knows windows forever let me know it. So, my question is, HOW DOES ONE FIX THE BAD BLOCKS!! That's all i want to do. Quick and dirty and get the f%^&*er over with, ya know what i'm saying??? Please help a girl out :(

I'm at my wits end. Like I said: the knowledge of the bad sectors are there; now what's the next step!

thanks peeps!

MD

OK so you mean that :
1/ You deleted the partition hosting your ntfs? fat? whatever filesystem
2/ You recreated a new partition
3/ You created an ext4 filesystem on this partition ?
Right ?
Now the question is : Is it only your ext4 filesystem which gets bad blocks (because the fs went corrupted in some way) or your partition getting bad sectors (because the disk is actually damaged)?

BTW : In the second (worst case), fsck is not the tool you should start with. This tutorial might help you answering your "HOW DOES ONE FIX THE BAD BLOCKS" : http://www.sjvs.nl/?p=12 (providing you actually mean "sectors")
In brief: use hdparm
