I would like to setup local portage tree in /usr/local/portage/overlay as described in documentation for unsupported ebuilds. I never used CVS before and can't understand how to use it. For example I need to copy all the files from here http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/net-misc/mDNSResponder/?hideattic=0

I tried to run

Anonymous Access: cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.gentoo.org:/var/cvsroot co gentoo-x86/net-misc/mDNSResponder

as they suggest at the top of the page. But don't see any ebuilds copied by this command, what I see are several files I don't see in web interface:

Code:

# ls -R .
.:
gentoo-x86

./gentoo-x86:
CVS  net-misc

./gentoo-x86/CVS:
Entries  Entries.Log  Entries.Static  Repository  Root

./gentoo-x86/net-misc:
CVS  mDNSResponder

./gentoo-x86/net-misc/CVS:
Entries  Entries.Log  Entries.Static  Repository  Root

./gentoo-x86/net-misc/mDNSResponder:
CVS  files

./gentoo-x86/net-misc/mDNSResponder/CVS:
Entries  Entries.Log  Repository  Root

./gentoo-x86/net-misc/mDNSResponder/files:
CVS

./gentoo-x86/net-misc/mDNSResponder/files/CVS:
Entries  Repository  Root

Please let me know what is the proper command to copy it.

you don't need cvs for local overlay, just read this: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-827407-start-0.html

I can easily download ebuild file from http://gpo.zugaina.org/ or from http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/net-misc/mDNSResponder/?hideattic=0

But then I have to manually download each file in files folder, for example:

http://data.gpo.zugaina.org/poly-c/net-misc/mDNSResponder/files/

Is there any way to automate it? Either with cvs or other utility, I don't care as long as it works.

ckid113,

There is wget. It has a recursive option. Be careful with that option or you will get everything that ever was in gentoo-x86.
