From a minimal gentoo install + XBMC. Is apache required for the xbmc remote to work or is there some embedded support in xbmc itself?

you can control xbmc via its web-interface w/out apache; it uses libmicrohttp (then you can use eg its android-remote). the USE-flag is named "webserver" but described as "internal webserver", so no, no apache needed.
xbmc also has ir-remote support (via lirc) which is supported and works, but i have not tested it. _________________ DUMM KLICKT GUT. |
