The last emerge -avuDN world introduced kde-plasma/plasma-meta-5.3.2 from kde-overlay but when I try to install all the packages I get 404, 403 and ftp not found errors for some packages like kdecorations-5.3.2 or plasma-workspace-wallpapers.5.3.2

Here's an example of plasma-workspace-5.3.2 not beeing found:

Code:

!!! Couldn't download 'plasma-workspace-wallpapers-5.3.2.tar.xz'. Aborting.
 * Fetch failed for 'kde-plasma/plasma-workspace-wallpapers-5.3.2', Log file:
 *  '/var/tmp/portage/kde-plasma/plasma-workspace-wallpapers-5.3.2/temp/build.log'

As you can see it tries to download from various sites but non of them has the file available.

I meanwhile stopped emerging any further after the second non-existing package. Do I have to change some mirrors (where?) or what's wrong here or is the 5.3.2 release totally broken?

Thanks for any help

Hi, Plasma 5.3.2 and Kde apps 15.04.3 are not officially scheduled to be released until tomorrow, probably sometime around 12-3pm UTC. But they release the packages earlier to the maintainers. So I believe the kde-overlay maintainers often have them in portage a few days in advance but you get these fetch errors because they aren't officially on the mirrors yet.

See https://techbase.kde.org/Schedules , https://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_5 , and https://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/Applications/15.04_Release_Schedule .

What I usually do is just use 'emerge -uavDN --keep-going @world' and it will just upgrade what it can. It's a bit inefficient but it has worked for me in the past. A portage wizard might know of a better way. If so hopefully they will share. :)

Another good workaround might just be to wait until tomorrow night or so if you can. It should all be working then. :)

A trick I like to do when checking to see if it has been posted yet is to go to say:

http://download.kde.org/stable/plasma/5.3.2/ (or change to whichever branch/release you are looking for)

If it hasn't been posted yet then you will get a 403 Forbidden error. When it is posted you should see a directory listing. That way you do not have to constantly try to sync and emerge the packages. Just don't pound KDE's servers too hard. Or you can just wait for the announcement from KDE too. :)

They were experimenting with a "fetch restriction" scheme on the overlay where it would just block fetching of the package until released but it seems they got rid of that claiming it wasn't working out. There is probably a better way to do this but I guess they figure overlay users are advanced and probably know how to deal with it. I'm not sure.

Since Plasma 5 is now in the main tree unmasked, you can remove your local unmask to avoid pulling in unreleased versions.

Wow. I hadn't noticed that. I'll probably drop back to ~amd64 without the overlay then.
Thanks again for all the good work you and the KDE team do. :)

I'm mainly waiting for Dolphin:5 and that won't be released until August now so I don't mind so much going back to the :4 apps. Hopefully by then or shortly thereafter Kde-apps/*:5 start appearing in the main tree. From what I understand they soon have to as KDE isn't doing new development on :4 apps.

Depends, individual applications still receive KDE4 commits, many do not even have a frameworks branch yet. Those where frameworks is master already, so maybe half of them, indeed have stopped with KDE4-branch updates.
