ouch - that was stupid: after a rebuild i depcleaned my old gcc version to create the following mess:

Code:
* gcc-config: Could not locate 'x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.5.4' in '/etc/env.d/gcc/' !
 * Running 'fix_libtool_files.sh 4.5.4'
 * Scanning libtool files for hardcoded gcc library paths...
 * gcc-config: Active gcc profile is invalid!
gcc-config: error: could not run/locate 'gcc'
:0: assertion failed: (gcc -dumpversion) | getline NEWVER)

how would i fix this???

cheers!

Code:
emerge --info
!!! No gcc found. You probably need to 'source /etc/profile'
!!! to update the environment of this terminal and possibly
!!! other terminals also.

lo-jay,

Code:
gcc-config
is your friend.

New versions of gcc must be selected manually. That --depclean ripped out you currently selected gcc shows you have a new one waiting for you to select it.

lo-jay,

That won't do any harm.

It fixes things that linked against the old gcc libs.
