lolwut??
I want to put a linux related topic but many if not all are unrelated to linux. I don't want my technical oriented linux topic be drowned down by anthropological affairs. And I am not too sure if it's strictly 'Gentoo Chat'.

You missed "Obama" in your title. Now, *that's* a huge mistake. Almost no one will reply now. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II |

OTW has in its past had quite a bit of other things linux and hardware. They will be answered.
The zoo is because there is, most recently, a large base of users that don't actually have too many problems maintaining their installs or need regular help. An idle mind ... |

"Off The Wall" looks more like "Anything Goes" | OTW == Anything Goes. Which includes general Linux topics unrelated to Gentoo. Which topics exist in OTW are created by participants, as there are no paid staff to create content.
Post your topic. If people are interested, they'll post. Sometimes people read it just for the novelty. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

I see the occasional "gladiator" reference to new users which post inappropriately elsewhere on f.g.o before it gets moved to OTW, but most answers for technical questions seem to offer some attempt at assistance. _________________ lolgov. Okay. Here's an answer:
Use "restrict". The poorly-name "restrict" keyword (formally recognized in the ANSI C 99 standard) causes the pointer it modifies to be treated by the compiler as being intended to have exclusive access to its memory location. This can help avoid the common error known as "stepping on your own dick". _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Here's another: For basic 6510 assembly language programming there is a book called Nailing Jelly to a Tree. This book is out of print, but you may pick up a copy second hand on Amazon or other 2nd hand online bookstore. |

The answer is 42.
The question is "What do you get if you multiply six by nine?"
The moral is there is something "fundamentally wrong with the universe". |

How can you know that, if you can't say with any degree of reliability what the universe even is? _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Except in a real language: | Code: | aidan@aidan-laptop ~ $ cat floatmath.c
#include <stdio.h>
void main() {
float answer = 0.1+0.1+0.1, exp_answer = 0.3;
printf("0.1+0.1+0.1=%f which is %s.\n",answer,answer==exp_answer?"true":"false");
}
aidan@aidan-laptop ~ $ ./a.out
0.1+0.1+0.1=0.300000 which is true. |

Reminds me of the Pentium floating-point division bug. Ah, the jokes...
Q: Complete the following analogy.
' + ' is to ' - ' as ' * ' is to ___?
(1) '/'
(2) trunc()
(3) rand()
(4) On a Pentium, all of the above
Intel tried to excuse it at first by claiming it was precise enough for most common purposes, giving rise to more jokes, such as:
"At Intel, Quality is Job 0.99989960954, and that's close enough for non-technical people." _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

I find that OTW generally helps people if they really have a question that is not trivial or stupid or posed in an insulting tone. Some people might throw in the gladiator reference and the Turkish jail, but all in all questions do get (useful) answers here. _________________ Kali Ma
