So upgrading from 171 to 197 went perfectly fine on my system.
Sincere thanks to the gentoo devs who made this possible, Samuli & William for sure... and all those who contributed more anonymously !
A little question remains :
As part of the doc installed by the package in /usr/share/doc/udev-197-r3, one can read : | bzcat README.bz2 wrote: | REQUIREMENTS:
Linux kernel >= 2.6.39
with devtmpfs
with cgroups (but it's OK to disable all controllers) |
From what I deduce that CONFIG_CGROUPS should be set.
I just discovered this afterwards (udev's ebuild cares about CONFIG_DEVTMPFS setting but not about CONFIG_CGROUPS) and run udev 197 on a cgroups-less kernel. What should I expect going wrong ?
BTW : No problem met during two days of continuous work with udev-197 on a ck-sources-2.6.38-r3 x86_64 monolithic kernel + nvidia-drivers + no-exotic-hardware.
I still really wonder what, technically, makes KV_MIN=2.6.39 _________________ In theory there are no differences between theory and practice. In practice, there are.
Don't try to understand my posts. Immanuel Kant never did, he thinks that only music and laughter do not have to mean anything. |
