Hello,

I tried to do update world and found out that layman cannot be updated, exactly one of the 3 level dependency has been hardmasked, package time-1.2.0.3. I think this kind of issue shouldn't exist in gentoo standard portage tree, I expect this behavior in overlays, but here? Or my expectation is wrong. Of course I can unmask the package and continue...

No, the dev-haskel/time dep is even deeper than that. random-1.0.1.1's only dep is dev-lag/haskel. I have been unable to find the time dep in the stable versions, which you seem to be running.

The mask data from dev-haskel/time, seem to indicate your haskel system needs some updating to fix the problem.

Code:
- dev-haskell/time-1.4.0.1::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Sergei Trofimovich <slyfox@gentoo.org> (06 Dec 2012)
# dev-haskell/time is a core library for ghc-6.12 and upper.
# Please, unmerge it from your system and fix the breakage
# with haskell-updater.
# Masked for removal.

Have you done that. Try updating or re-emerging ghc, then re-try updating layman.
I am unable to reproduce your masked package failure on my system with USE=darcs, it came up with a complete install list not including the dev-haskel/time pkg.

I just got word about the problem.

Code:
'equery d dev-haskell/time'
will get a list of offenders
