Good find on the Buddy Rich videos. Peart on Live in Rio was phenomenal.

I'll watch the full Peart interview later tonight.

Low Frequency Oscillators. They modify the original synth signal with low frequency (below our human hearing range) to produce effects like flange and wobble.

No kidding. Anyone worth listening to makes it intimidating. I bought some sticks (Peart's) and a practice pad. We'll see how horrible that turns out :)

Merged.

Not bad. I could've done without the oddly placed vocalizations.

Rush - Stick It Out (Music Video - 1993)

Holy crap, it's been 20 years since Counterparts was released.

In an interview with Geddy & Alex, they were asked if there was anything they didn't like to play. Geddy thought Alex didn't like Stick it Out, but then Alex thought it was Neil who didn't like to play it.

Not sure why... I like it.

Nobody's Hero is probably my favorite off that album.

Everyday Glory probably second.

And of course, can't forget RUSH In Rio - Leave That Thing Alone (Blocked In U.S.) (not blocked for me).

Some of that's pretty good. As is typical for me with this type of music (in a very broad sense), the vocals kind of ruin it.

Clockwork Angels ~ Rush

On repeat. This is a great rock album. Geddy's vocals are showing his age, but if you focus on the guitar/bass/drums... this is a brilliant album.

Well worth the $13 I paid at Target. For this level of playing, I'd easily pay $30.
Cool, thanks. I hadn't checked for release updates in a while. I'll have to get it when I go out for lunch.

How do you like it compared to say, Test for Echo, Vapor Trails, and/or Snakes & Arrows?

EDIT:

Made it through 3 tracks on the way home.

It took me a while to warm up to Counterparts, but once I did, I now like most of it quite a bit. Unfortunately that hasn't happened since Test for Echo. I'm hopeful about Clockwork, but based on recent history, I'm still skeptical.

Oh, and I didn't perceive any vocal issues.
I don't think I listened to Clockwork Angels much after that. I was pretty disappointed that it seemed like the Test for Echo and later material more than what I loved.

I started listening to CA again this past week, and it is growing on me. I liked Caravan from the start, and BU2B was OK. The music was good, but the lyrics were missing something. I'm liking more of it now.

I started by going back to TforE. On it, I actually like most of it, but Virtuality was almost painful to hear from them. Dog Years wasn't much better. The rest of it is pretty good.

Vapor Trails is still hard for me to get into. After One Little Victory, it just doesn't grab me. Again, the music I like, but for so long (up to and through Counterparts, I absolutely LOVED almost everything. And what I didn't love, was still good -- a high bar to maintain).

Snakes & Arrows mostly continues with my liking the music, but being disappointed by the lyrics.

I need to spend some more time paying attention to TforE, VT, S&A and of course CA. CA brings back some hope too, so that's good.

I must say, there was one video with Geddy talking about having to "work" to make the lyrics singable. Apparently Neil was pretty picky, but Geddy had to insist that it had to work singing as well. Neil gave in somewhat because CA was also going to be a SciFi book (reviews aren't promising, but I'm going to read it when it is in paperback).
