Random Input Lag

At random times, times ranging from about 3 seconds to 30 seconds, as i type on the keyboard the input doesn't get processed, of which the lag also lasts a random amount of time, like 1-3 seconds. I have just recently installed Gentoo from a stage3 amd64 build. Even while running Gentoo from the live disk, I had the same issue.

I'm currently running a 3.6.11-gentoo kernel.
The machine from which Gentoo is running is a Lenovo G550 laptop.

What could be causing this?
