installation error on gentoo?

I have recently learned that to install something on linux, you use the sudo apt-get command, but in gentoo it keeps saying that the command doesn't exist. is it a problem with gentoo, or just an incompatible command?

apt-get is from Debian (and its derivates like ubuntu). Using Gentoo the correct command is "emerge".
