Only superficial benefits... having a partition table, with a partition type, makes it clear to everyone (be it Windows on another disk, or any live installer linux CD you boot, or any boot loader installer), that this is a properly set up disk and that it's probably supposed to be left alone. Without partitions, some installer software may offer you to format this here empty disk... so it's a bit easier to lose data to accidents.
There are no benefits whatsoever in terms of performance if that's what you're looking for. |
