hi,
Does radeon have some sort of 2D accel? I've noticed that when a terminal is crowded with characters and colors sometimes the cursos becomes slow.
This is most prominent with these two programs:
| Code: | app-vim/matrix
app-misc/cmatrix |
When the screen is filled with characters it starts moving slow and stutter with one core at 100% usage. How to make urxvt fully accelerated? And when moving the window around with cmatrix running takes a few seconds to appear on its new place.
Xorg.0.log has a funny message
| Code: | | VRAM usage limit set to 205081K |
But my card has 1GB of GDDR5 ram.
0ad is faster than urxvt running cmatrix.

| You didn't say how large the terminal is, but regardless even on an r200 the speed ain't that bad in an vte-based term, so chances are it's either urxvt or your kernel config. |

Terminal size shouldn't matter. And I tried small and full screen. The slow down and high cpu usage is with both.
No way is the kernel, as I said I can play 0ad with gfx maxed out without a prob. So why a dumb terminal that only supports a very primitive set of colors 256 and just displays simple characters (nothing complex there) brings the card down to a crawl?
I am wondering this. |
