Remy was OK, but wouldn't spend a lot on it. Courvoisier VS more or less comparable. Also have some Feckin whiskey. Will need to try it again, but I'd rather go for the pricier Jameson 12. And I think even that I didn't think was better than the Asbach. Different, but not necessarily better.

Hennessy XO is quite good. The VS or VSOP varieties are not quite up to par, however.

If you go on Cognac then just look for "Grande-Champagne" (It's not a brand, its a region of Cognac (Like Speyside for the Highland malts)). 130$ is about the price for a "Grande-Champagne" Cognac around there.

There's another brandy I may try. Supposedly did very well in tests vs. much higher priced stuff. But the guy who recommended it also recommended Feckin Irish Whiskey, which is nearly Feckin awful. OK, it isn't that bad, but I won't buy it again. It will be mixed with Coke until it is gone.
Vodka is OK. Most of the ones I've tried aren't great. I have Belvedere, and it is pretty decent. Certainly better than the other handful I've had. Which one(s) do you prefer?

Chopin vodka is quite good. A Polish potato vodka with a slight apple finish to the taste.
My usual is Svedka.

Of the ones I've had, I seem to prefer potatoe (as is, IIRC, Belvedere). I'll see if I can find shot sizes of either.

Vodka does have taste, but I can't apply adjectives to it (any alcohol for that matter). My first "test" is whether or not I can distinguish it as a beverage or a replacement for JP-8. I've tasted one wine that actually seemed "spicy." It was the only time I can think of that a beverage tasted like one of the adjectives used to describe them. Otherwise, wine tastes like wine. Nasty.

When I do any sort or beer or cigar or whatever tasting, it is easier for me to relate the tastes to sounds than it is for me to say something has a hint of cocoa with earth notes.
The dark full bodied taste of an Onyx Reserve cigar is like how a violin concerto in a minor chord sounds, for example.
Although with coffee, I do sounds, aromas and tastes. |
