|

hi guys. i ve been using linux for quite some time now, but only the easy-made-for-you everything-out-of-the-box just-like-windoze versions. mainly ubuntu and a bit fedora. so i ve decided, to try and actually learn something. So i ve decided to install gentoo in virtualbox, and if all goes well, migrate
So at the very first step i have a problem, google wouldn't solve me, or at least, wouldn't be kind enough to guide me to an answer.
I ve set the virtualguest's network as a bridged adapter, using as an adapter: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)
The host is an xubuntu 12.04 64bit and i am installing from a minimal-install iso for amd64 processor.
This is what i did in screenshots, since i cant copy the output:

http://s9.postimage.org/buo27dx4v/gentoo_main2.png
sorry for the screenshots. but i think it is easier both for me, and for you, just so you exactly what i did.
The thing is, i ve read that for the intel adapter i should use the e1000 driver, and in /lib/modules/3.5.7-gentoo/kernel/drivers/net i don't really know what i am looking at. is there some documentation, on what drivers to be used for each network card or adapter? any hints would be welcome. thank you for your time, and againa sorry for the screenshots. |

ok, it seems, that i just had to start dhcpcd. but before that, i had to create the /run folder. so the solution was:
net-setup eth0
mkdir /run
dhcpcd |
