|
|
Hi!
I try to add another user (john.smith for example) to my box, but all I get is this:
Code: |
linuxbert etc # useradd john.smith
useradd: invalid user name 'john.smith'
linuxbert etc #
|
If I execute the same command without the dot "useradd johnsmith" everything works fine. Is this a gentoo specific problem that I can't create usernames with "." or a general linux issue?
The thing is that I'm currently configuring samba for our W2K domain and for our users to access the samba server I need their accounts in the /etc/passwd file and in the /etc/samba/private/smbpasswd file. But our windows logon names are like "john.smith", "peter.morgan",.....
Any hints? |

This thread came up in a forum search for "dot" and "username", and purports to contain a script that addresses your problem. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
