Anyone has installed CUDA 5.0?

The ebuilds available up to date are for CUDA 4.2 at most.

What are the plans for CUDA 5.0?

Hello!

You can get CUDA SDK 5.0 from a science overlay.

I installed successfully the CUDA 5.0.35 environment using the science overlay. I also installed gcc 4.4.7 to comply with the requirements. Here is a test with nvcc which produce an error at link time. Any hints?

Code:
nvcc --compiler-bindir=/usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/4.4.7 MP1.cu
/tmp/tmpxft_000028b0_00000000-14_MP1.o: In function `main':

/opt/cuda/bin/../lib64/libcudart.so: undefined reference to `std::__detail::_List_node_base::_M_hook(std::__detail::_List_node_base*)@GLIBCXX_3.4.15'

I'm using 5.0 with gcc 4.6 and everything builds fine.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I needed a confirmation from someone before going ahead.

I will upgrade gcc to 4.6.

I used cuda 4.2 with gcc 4.5.x and had no problems. I migrated recently to gcc-4.6 since it offers a better support for my machine and the software I run performs better if compiled with this version. Also the bugs blocking gcc-4.6 stabilization concern some minor issues that often have been already solved, just some people seem to have forgotten to notice that (just my impression). The migration from 4.5.4 was a piece of cake and my laptop and workstation work fine without any "emerge -e world" or similar freaked commands.

CUDA 5.0.35 and gcc 4.6.3 are working fine for me now. This is resolved.

However, I must say the ebuild for nvidia-cuda-toolkit-5.0.35 is misleading since it issues a message saying we must use gcc <= 4.4, while in fact we need to use gcc > 4.5.
