Hi,
I was just wondering what is involved in moving my Gentoo (amd64) install from and old motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 to a new motherboard and processor (i.e. a Core i7)?
I've spent years customizing the install and would hate to have to start again from scratch, but since both processors are 64-bit would that mean it's easier?
My guess was I'd need to update my kernel processor type and features and then maybe edit the make.conf file.
My CFLAGS is already -march=native so I would also update the use flags and then run:
| Code: | | emerge --update --deep --with-bdeps=y --newuse world |
Dare I ask is it as easy as that?
How about moving the install to a different motherboard (different hard disk controller / chipset) but same CPU?

I am not sure if I am right with that but I think that you will need to rebuild everything. Because native for athlon could be different to i7. It must not be that slow with i7.
-avuDN - will just update your system as regular, not rebuild it.
but in another hand I think that i7 can process your compiled binaries without any troubles, but I can't be sure abot that, safer for me will be rebuild stuff _________________
