December 21 will mark the completion of the 13th Mayan B'ak'tun, where we go from Mayan long date "Alautun 0, K'inchiltun 0, Kalabtun 0, Piktun 0, B'ak'tun 12 K'atun 19 Tun 19 Winal 17 K'in 19" to Mayan long date "B'ak'tun 13" (i.e, going from '0.0.0.0.12.19.19.17.19' to '0.0.0.0.13.0.0.0.0'). It also coincides with the Great Galactic Alignment, prophesied by many to bring about floods, earthquakes, droughts, famine, pestilence, war, and the possible end of Humanity.
So, do you believe it's going to happen, and what are you doing to prepare? Are you stockpiling any food, water, or ammunition? If you have any computing software which only goes up to B'ak'tun 12, what remediation and risk mitigation programs are you undertaking?

It's raining already here, so I believe it is going to happen, to prepare I have cleaned the rainwater drainage around my house ....

What exactly is meant by the end of the world? Is it meant literally, like the whole thing blinks out of existence? Or does it just mean life as we know it ends and a new era begins? Like a zombie apocalypse or something.

according to the creators of that calender nothing happens at all. Just the start of a new 'epoche'*. But seeing you double posting is certain sign for deeper running changes...

apart from some confused birds, the poles reversal shouldn't be a problem at all.

Actually, the most recent modeling shows it would temporarily perturb the normal convective flow within the planet's mantle, which is likely to cause widespread tectonic activity (i.e., earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanism). There's a whole thread buried in here somewhere discussing this.
(Although, there's no real reason to believe a Galactic alignment event will cause a magnetic pole reversal. We have no idea what causes them, and they happen at apparently random intervals.)

I just got me to 1.4T magnets. Fun to play with.... it only hurts a bit when they snap together with your hand between them....
