Install Gentoo + KDE Environment. Its started with 1024*768 resolution. I can't change its to my native 1366*768. Install the intel-video drivers and vesa driver.

Code:
lspci -v | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

xrandrx:
Code:
xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 800 x 600, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768
default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1024x768       61.0*
   800x600        61.0

Xorg started without xorg.conf.[/code]

Are you using xf86-video-intel? (VIDEO_CARDS=i915 or intel) (versus VESA)?
Do you have Kernel Mode Setting (KMS) enabled?
Check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to make sure the "intel" driver is loaded.

Yeah< I use the xf86-video-intel drivers.
I have the KMS in kernel

Code:
cat /usr/src/linux/.config | grep -i KMS
CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER=y
CONFIG_DRM_I915_KMS=y

make.conf:

Code:

VIDEO_CARDS="intel"

and with log file, I'm not sure:

Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i intel
[    29.325] (==) Matched intel as autoconfigured driver 0
[    29.325] (II) LoadModule: "intel"

Try removing the VESA driver temporarily, emerge --unmerge xf86-video-vesa and see if it helps?
Is that all of the mentions of "intel" in your Xorg.0.log? That seems very few...

Doing the same grep I see things like this in my log (for a machine that incidentally also uses 1366x768):

Code:
[ 33605.080] (==) Matched intel as autoconfigured driver 0
[ 33605.080] (==) Matched intel as autoconfigured driver 1
[ 33605.080] (II) LoadModule: "intel"
[ 33605.080] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so
[ 33605.081] (II) Module intel: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
[ 33605.082] (II) intel: Driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810,
[ 33605.086] (II) intel(0): using device path '/dev/dri/card0'
[ 33605.086] (II) intel(0): Creating default Display subsection in Screen section
[ 33605.086] (==) intel(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
[ 33605.086] (==) intel(0): RGB weight 888
[ 33605.086] (==) intel(0): Default visual is TrueColor

(and it goes on and on... which includes the EDID readback and DDC data...)

You may want to read through the file carefully (or post it somewhere) and see if there's any indication why it did not decide to use the intel driver and use VESA instead...

Odd you're using 3.5.7... which should work with the new Intel drivers. This might be related to someone else's post where downgrading seems to have fixed the problem... I'm currently using 2.20.13 I think, so this doesn't make sense... need to reproduce on my machine. (I only have a i945GM, i965G, Sandybridge, and Ivybridge to play with...)

Definitely need to make sure you have the Intel kernel driver enabled and with KMS enabled (do you see penguins on bootup?). Last time I tried running the Intel driver without KMS enabled in the kernel resulted in an error situation that looks like what you have -- that is, it just failed for no reason...

Hey,

as it seems you have KMS enabled in the kernel, but maybe you should try to pass the kms option to the kernel while booting.
add "i915.modeset=1" as an additional option (you should already see pinguin logo while booting).

Problem is solved. Thx to all. I add one more option into kernel. The Multimedia support for my card. And unmerge the vesa drivers.
