X updated but it does not start

Hi, ALL,
I'm trying to run amd64 stable machine with as little as possible unstable packages.
Recently I wanted to upgrade my system. So I sync'ed and then emerged world.

After successful upgrade, X updated itself and so did all it's drivers - keyboard, mouse, synaptics, radeon-ucode and evdev. However, after reboot and issuing "startx" I didn't have a functioning mouse and keyboard. Looking at the Xorg.log.0, I saw that there was an incompatibility in version. I also need to mention that I was running with the old xorg.conf file.

So, what I did was I tried to merge all drivers latest x11 drivers (i.e. ~amd64). However after successful upgrade X does not start at all. I'm running GNOME 2 and issuing "startx" comes back to the terminal. And I still use my old xorg.conf.

Does this mean I need to generate a new xorg.conf file?

after an upgrade of xorg-server you ususally need to re-emerge the xorg-drivers (unstable is normally not necessary). i think the ebuild tells you to.
check which one are installed

If mouse and keyboard are not working, it is usually due to the evdev driver requiring a rebuild.

The xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard drivers are only for systems where using evdev is not possible. Best uninstall them and remove or replace any mentioning in xorg.conf.
