I get this far and can't go on, as the boot process just stops:
Code: |
....
First SATA, Master Disk : LRG, SATA2, 750 GB
PCI device listing...
.... IRQ
Network Controller 3
ACPI 9
|
and nothing follows. No messages of any kind.
Any help appreciated,

I'm not clear on your question. I can not get any gentoo installation Stage 1,2 or 3 to boot past this point.
I suspect that my HD, being a micro-SSD (750gig's) may be the problem. That's what I'm hoping I can get cleared up with these posts.
As a very last resort, System Rescue(built from gentoo) will boot without problems. Since I've been a die hard gentoo user since late '03, I'd prefer to use the hand book installation methods.
Thank you for your reply Jaglover.

using the system rescue cd following the handbook requires only that you use elinks instead of links for the stage and snapshot downloads. stage 1 and stage 2 have been deprecated for several years. the minimal install cd from early june works. current autobuilds have problems. _________________ Defund the FCC. |

Thank you Donahue. I'll get the minimal you mention.
Any knowledge as to whether or not the micro-ssd is a problem?

ssd not likely as the problem as the sysresccd boots.
Discussion of the minimal install cd problems:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421839
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-938278.html
BTW, the install cd only provides a running linux system, it does not provide any part of the installed system. It's advantages are small size and compatibility with the handbook.
BTW, a posted photo (free photo site) of the screen can save a lot of typing pain. _________________ Defund the FCC. |

That went waaay over my head. What's it referring too?
One more thing. I can't seem to find the June minimal you referred to earlier. Is it available to an amd64 system?
Thanks,

sorry, your original post looked like a typed version of the screen at the time of failure.
generally the easy way to pass an exact state of the screen on a hung computer is to take a picture of the screen with a digital camera or cell phone, post the picture on a free site, and post the url here. _________________ Defund the FCC. |

Thanks Donahue. I did type the original to look like the screen. It wasn't hard. Anything more extensive and I probably would have pictured it.
I edited my last post. Hope you saw it.
