This is about mplayer2 from multimedia overlay.

Since updating to 2.0_p20121103 I can't play videos in smplayer -- mplayer2 errors out like this:

Code:
/usr/bin/mplayer2 -noquiet -v -nofs -nomouseinput -lavdopts threads=3 -sub-fuzziness 1 -identify -slave -vo xv -ao pulse -nokeepaspect -framedrop -nodr -double -input nodefault-bindings:conf=/dev/null -stop-xscreensaver -wid 79691869 -monitorpixelaspect 1 -ass -embeddedfonts -ass-line-spacing 0 -ass-font-scale 1 -ass-styles /home/piotrek/.config/smplayer/styles.ass -fontconfig -font Georgia -subfont-autoscale 0 -subfont-osd-scale 16 -subfont-text-scale 16 -subcp enca:pl:UTF-8 -subpos 100 -volume 100 -cache 50000 -osdlevel 0 -idx -vf-add ass -vf-add screenshot -noslices -channels 2 -af scaletempo -softvol -softvol-max 100 <file path>

I tried it with smplayer and smplayer2, none worked.

Seems to be something to do with fontconfig. Any ideas how to get it to work? Or just a general idea what's going on?

Looks like it starts at:
After bisecting, I tried smplayer-9999 (0.8.1+SVN-r4724), and it seems to work with this change/these changes.
