I was wondering how I might go about getting the latest gfortran through portage (4.8 exists, but 4.5.4 is what's available on my system). Since there is no package "gfortran" there isn't anything that I can unmask. I don't want to unmask all gnu compilers (C for example)...just fortran to get access to some of the 2003 features. Is this possible through portage, or do I need to download and build it separately? |

No, the C compiler will always be installed. But you don't need to switch to gcc-4.8 with gcc-config, you can run gfortran-4.8 directly instead. |
