For years, I think, I've been trying to get Pidgin to work with Jingle (Google Voice & Video) without any success. Has anyone ever dones this? In fact, it seems that no OSS anywhere is capable of handling Jingle correctly.
Some claim they do (like Pidgin and Telepathy-based s/w) but there are always problems. Therefore a second question: Is there any Video-Chat protocol which is well supported by OSS on Linux and provided for free by some service on the net? _________________ <iamben> I think once you get comfortable w/ gentoo, you'll find most other distros to not be good enough |

I have tried to use pidgin + jingle two to three years ago. I could never get the video to work. The audio I got to work, but it was always too noisy.
The only free video stuff that works on linux (and interoperates with other OS's) are skype and google hangouts/video. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

Sykpe is no option for me. I would like OSS. _________________ <iamben> I think once you get comfortable w/ gentoo, you'll find most other distros to not be good enough |

I think you can use Jitsi (Jingle nodes technology) + some free jabber server. |
