cant get ark emerged .. dont want to mask the wrong package... not sure what to do.

Code:

[blocks B      ] <kde-base/nepomuk-4.8.80:4 ("<kde-base/nepomuk-4.8.80:4" is blocking kde-base/nepomuk-core-4.9.2-r1)

The issue isn't what you need to mask. The issue is that you've got part of kde 4.8 and part of kde 4.9 installed. Did you install kde and then switch to testing branch? In any case, it's safe to simply unmerge the conflicting parts of 4.8. Also, remember from my last post: everything goes smoother if your system is up to date, which it very likely won't be if you've just make a Portage configuration change (USE flags, profile, ~arch, etc.).

This is a fresh install, this is why i'm confused about the portage tree being messed up, Profile it set to desktop/kde, USE="-gtk -gnome consolekit dbus udev qt4 kde mmx sse sse2"

why is mixing crap in the portage tree?

What part of KDE have you installed? Did you end up installing kdebase-meta? If not, then what?

Are you not on testing branch? Just a plain stable system this time?

Okay. We can either call it a day, since you're past your immediate issues, or I can help you figure out what happened. If you want to pursue it, then
  • If you haven't already installed them, install wgetpaste and gentoolkit
    Code:
    emerge --noreplace -v wgetpaste gentoolkit
  • Paste your make.conf, world file, and "emerge --info"
    Code:
    wgetpaste `find /etc -name 'make.conf'`
    wgetpaste /var/lib/portage/world
    emerge --info | wgetpaste
  • Finally, post the output of
    Code:
    equery list -p kdebase-rumtime-meta
You can use wgetpaste or just copy & paste (for any of these, really).
Post all paste links generated above.

make.conf - http://bpaste.net/show/56435/
world - http://bpaste.net/show/56437/
emerge --info http://bpaste.net/show/56438/

Code:

 * Searching for kdebase-runtime-meta ...
[IP-] [  ] kde-base/kdebase-runtime-meta-4.8.5:4
[-P-] [  ] kde-base/kdebase-runtime-meta-4.9.1:4
[-P-] [  ] kde-base/kdebase-runtime-meta-4.9.2:4

thanks for continuing to help with this.

Your post says you are not using testing, but your make.conf and emerge --info say that you are using testing.
