I've learned how Obama won.

oh the irony. You and BK are the ones who ignore the facts with their knee jerk reactions.
I love this thread so much. _________________

So says the man who can't let a thread about war go by without compulsively blurting out something about "ZOMG Bush's illegal invasion of Iraq!", or a thread about Palestine go by without compulsively blurting out something about Jews. Talk about knee-jerking. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Even people in Florida don't know who they voted for. Florida elections are like Bill Gates technology demos, always an embarrassing failure. Betting on the Florida result is just like betting on Russian Roulette.
Also, congratulations on your correct "prediction" or I mean assumption that Obama would win. You certainly said he would enough times, and he did, and you were right. _________________

They are getting revenge for the fact that other people have more money than them. You know, instead of earning it they steal it and call it revenge.
Vote themselves money, revenge-style, instead of making money in some honest way.
This is precisely what the founding fathers feared. They saw all this coming, and the warnings are still there being ignored by most. Greed, envy, and sloth consumes and defines the sheeple. A very dangerous combination. _________________

You were right first time. I don't do blind ideology. It was always obvious this was going to be a cakewalk for Obama but, in part, republican pundits couldn't see that because they were lost in their own bubble of unreality and also because they had to keep hoping that if they talked about "momentum" enough it might actually happen. The democalypse was a victory for logic and reason of the Nate Silver kind.
The GOP won't learn the lesson though, not yet. Here's another prediction: the next president after Obama will be democrat too. We won't see elephant dung on the the White House lawn again until they dump the tea party, get rid of misc other extremists and nutcases, and figure out what anybody who isn't old, white, straight and male wants from their government. _________________ the underlay overlay |

Yeah, especially when you throw in lust, gluttony, pride, and wrath as secondary characteristics. You can't be a good pimp-worshiper without a full 7-card pimp-hand. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Is it possible to resurrect a thread while it's on the first page? This thread is awesome. Especially seeing how Florida has showed that the election wasn't even close at 332 - 206 _________________ "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" - Douglas Adams |

That depends on what you mean by "close".
Obama won a lot more states, most by a very narrow margin. So, in one sense, Romney was not even close to defeating him. But that's not news; he wasn't even close without counting Florida (and if Florida had gone the other way, he still wouldn't have been close).
Now that Obama has won, the electoral ballot is meaningless. The electoral ballot is not, and has never been, viewed as an indicator of the "validity" of a presidency or a measure of his political capital. For this purpose, people have always looked to the popular vote and approval polls. This is why they are saying he does not have much of a "mandate".
He is the President. That's settled by the electoral ballot, and that's all the meaning the electoral ballot has. What is important now about the election is that he was re-elected by only about 51% of voters. That means that almost half the population does not want him as president, and does not support what he's trying to do. This is very important because it means he's not in a position to try to make any major changes, unless he deviates wildly from the positions he currently espouses and makes a genuine effort (not lip service) at compromise.
He didn't have much of a mandate before, but he ignored that, and what ended up happening is that Democrats lost control of the legislature, which was critical (even more critical than have a Democrat in the White House) to bringing about the socio-economic change they wanted. Laws are made by Congress and budgets are allocated by Congress. Democrats would have got more accomplished if McCain had been elected but they had hung on to their veto-proof super-majority in the legislature. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Obama won, Romney lost. Let it rest.
The 2 political parties in majority don't believe in the constitution, and until that gets changed, your country will continue on the downward slope. But rest assured you're not alone. Vast majority of countries are on the same slope. _________________ There is, a not-born, a not-become, a not-made, a not-compounded.
