Oh no, I won't have it for about three more weeks. There's a lot more to go through to get my hands on this thing.
1. I need the local firearms licensee to fax their transcript to the Palmetto State Armory.
2. I need PSA to process that license and ship the controlled item.
3. I need to go to the local licensee to register it with the ATF and take a written exam.
4. I need to wait ten days while a background check is conducted. |

Better for home defense: a Remington 870 12-gauge (I'm fond of the Marine Magnum myself) with a bright tactical light on it.
The light will help you stay out of prison by minimizing the chances of shooting your sleep-walking neighbor. Good ones are bright enough to cause temporary blindness at night, reducing the probability of having to shoot in order to gain control of an intruder. Also helpful in staying out prison is pre-loading progressively more lethal rounds in the magazine (just about everything is available for 12-gauge):
(1) die-marking beanbag
(2) bb-size rock salt in a #7 birdshot shell
(3) 00 rubber buckshot
(4) #7 birdshot
(5) buckshot
(6) 00 buckshot
Carry 4 more 00 buck on stock
Carbines are useless. Get a real rifle. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

You want me to get that big-ass thing for inside my house? That's insane. With this carbine* I'm getting, I can at least collapse the stock for indoor maneuverability.
* The faggotry we have in California says the barrel has to be at least 16", so it's not a real carbine. |

You could opt for UK style self defense. A stern ticking off - although
obviously - not too stern, that could cause issues for the intruder. _________________ When you break rules, break 'em good and hard |

The shotgun round will not go through the intruder and three walls like that .223 round would. _________________ I am not young enough to know everything.

Well, if you suggest anger management classes beforehand the courts might
not come down so heavily and allow both.
Actually, whilst we're on the subject - how does one go about obtaining a firearm in your neck of the
woods ? Presumably you need a licence ? _________________ When you break rules, break 'em good and hard |

Upon ordering the weapon, you undergo a ten-day background check. Assuming you pass, the firearm is then registered to you by the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms). Individual states may have further stipulations, though.
EDIT: I'm paying $85 just to get this thing in my name. |

Okay I meant to ask this earlier but the reason you're buying this in parts, because ...? _________________ What looks like a cat, flies like a bat, brays like a donkey, and plays like a monkey? |

It's not big at all. It's only got an 18-inch barrel, which makes it quite maneuverable. In overall length, it's only 38 inches.
However, if you have a hardon for a short length, you can get a tactical version of it, which has a collapsable stock, pistol grip, and is matte black. That's also available with a 14-inch barrel (instead of the legal-everywhere 18-inch), which might be illegal where you are or require a permit of some kind.
http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/tactical/shotguns/model-870-express-tactical-blackhawk.aspx
Personally, I think the 18-inch with a normal butt-stock is plenty maneuverable, more generally useful, and it's less likely to land your ass in prison (it's harder to look like an innocent victim who was just defending himself when the prosecution shows the jury your friggin military-style combat shotgun or your "assault rifle" that's pretty much useless, at least in their eyes, for anything but killing people). _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

A friend is giving me the upper portion of the weapon. Those parts can be sent through unregulated mail. I have to get my own lower portion.
EDIT: What he's sending me: (WebP) |

Step 0: leave California.
from your location, for gun owner friendly states, the nearest in 4 directions would be Alaska, Idaho, Nevada and Oregon. Utah is also a good choice, as is Montana. Washington and California both severly restrict NFA weapons.

Um, that's not totally true. What restricts that is a federal law, the National Firearms Act of 1934. anything shorter than 16" (18" shotgun) is considered a class III weapon, and requires registration and a $200 tax. from wikipedia:
| Quote: | | NFA weapons restricted? Yes Yes §12220, §12020 Possession of automatic weapons or short-barreled shotguns or rifles prohibited without DOJ "Dangerous Weapons Permit"; permission rarely granted outside of film industry. Suppressors (aka silencers) prohibited. AOW's (Any Other Weapons) permitted, except for "pen guns." |

Personally, I think a 14" shotgun is the ideal Home Defense Weapon. my concern with any long arm is it being long enough to grab when going around corners. however, as you noted,

Just ask Harry Beckwithor Gary Fadden.

Bah, i hate PDF. annoying format. however, the referenced law in that page only reaffims what I said. The law is a reaffirmation and extension of parts of the NFA, GCA and FOPA

I looked into this some more. It seems that if you give someone in authority a blowjob, they might sign off on your Class III paperwork. You also have to pay $200.
Yeah...fuck that. |
