In a case of root=/dev/ram0 real_root=/dev/sda2
No filesystem could mount root, tried: ext3 ext2...
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0)
http://imageplay.net/img/tya22288136/IMG0204A.jpg (real_root - real panic)

The case of omitting real_root and using just root=/dev/sda2
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly on device 8:2
http://imageplay.net/img/tya22288134/IMG0203A.jpg - after the last line hangs without panic (alt+sysrq+b helps)

List of all partitions (before kernel panic string):

And in the hope of "Chapter 7", Linux Sea - my case could be some overlooked controller for my SSD Crucial M4 64. I need to clarify SSD is different with HDD in Kernel Setup? Or slightly.. mb AHCI+SATA+RAID is a must chain? As I have an AMD (asrock mb) (although BIOS, no EFI !) I couldn't find where is my missed option PIIX (Intel PIIX or AMD analogy).
RAM and root file system support seem to be not very far from working system:
http://imgur.com/a/VSsHV

- genkernel failed in the same way (VFS). That's why i began my long path make && make_modules
I've done the kernel without initramfs [*] and 2 partitions in ext2 (/boot ,/ ) in order to lessen the possibility of fail (esp on SSD). I can't fild those two in kernel except for Marvell:
Code:
00:11.0 SATA controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA Controller [AHCI mode]
00:14.1 IDE interface: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 IDE Controller
03:00.0 SATA controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9120 SATA 6Gb/s Controller (rev 12)

I have no HDD only SSD and bootable flash minimal x86_64. Is an "PIIX4 PATA/SATA support" approprietable to me?
Why bzImage is in arch/x86/boot/bzImage (x86_64 only links to x86). And what i'm doing - recompiling kernel again & again with replaceing with cp.

Based on Pappy Kernel Seeds. ((Thanks to all you.. to this forum, the art of not being rude to ppl. with creative environment))

If your kernel .config is based on Pappy's Kernel Seeds, and your current attempt at a kernel is the manually compiled one (i.e., not the gernkernel one) then the kernel line in your grub.conf is incorrect. Try
Code:
kernel /boot/kernel-3.4.9-gentoo root=/dev/sda2
and report back.

I haven't looked at all of the voluminous pastebins in detail yet but can you confirm that you included your hard drive controller driver in the kernel .config?

You included your hard drive controller driver in the kernel .config. A good thing.

sdb may be gpt partitioned, kernel is hanging at sdb, enter chroot, recompile the manual kernel with menuconfig:

fix grub.conf, reboot

boot a system rescue cd, run lspci -k, see if the marvell controller picks up a Driver in use:

The same. EFI was added/ kernel recopiled (I have BIOS, not EFI).
Code:
root=/dev/sda2

(Added once and for all - without any ramfs ^)
Getting rescuecd (as non-"allinclusive_minimal" working system) to work was a real pain in the ass to me. I couldn't help with isohybrid execution (funny quick) && dd if/of nor couldn't install a unebootin (from arch system, -arch GUI is just for google & help here). Why should i use the wide-promoted rescue CD, it was not as if i'm going something to repair but wish to learn. Plus, dmesg is the same, in sense that it wouldn't be the same dmesg of newly system, that I'm trying to quick-shot with my low-resolution photo:

http://imgur.com/a/3K6Kx

They're as fast as light-speed INDEED.
Those are sequential shots from the stable & last screen (from the very last bottom stop-line completely to the reachable top, by shiftPGUP):

But again, what's the critical difference between the minimal and the rescuecd? Howewer I have that

lspci -k

If the minimal install CD lets you access your root device, then there's no need for the rescue CD. The "lspci -k" output will help is confirm that you have the right drivers built into your kernel. Let me look. :)

Solved. Forgot about this setting in handbook.
Quote:
CONFIG_DEVTMPFS=y
CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT=y
CONFIG_TMPFS=y

I had no this option. CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT=y

Thanks.
