yes, if you looked you should have seen stalled screen but disk activity. [rant] before kms we could almost count on a screen until we started X no matter how many odd choices we might make - default bios and default vga mode - then we fooled with default graphics - next we will depart from default bios for uefi - next M$ and computer makers will lock us out of new machines with tpm and digitally signed os's. Unfortunately, I've came across another problem and that is the r8169 and the RTL8111/8168B PCI gentoo problem. But I think I should post that in networking.

I'll be there in a sec. I'm gonna play around with internet solutions to see if they work first.

EDIT: fixed it. i had to download r8168 from the internet in chroot then cp the extracted directory into the drivers/net place then reboot then ./autorun it.
