Hi all,

on an updated ~amd64 plasma laptop in the last few weeks I have this weird problem.

Switching to a terminal and giving the
Code:
rc-service xdm stop

command does NOT close down my running plasma desktop.
In the logs I see that sddm receives the SIGTERM signal - but it doesn't do anything.
Running
Code:
rc-service xdm stop

again, tells me that xdm has already stopped. And running
Code:
rc-service xdm start

gives me a flashing, unstable, system which requires a hard shutdown.

I don't even have any idea of where the bug is and how to debug this. Any hints?

no change.

At this point I'm still working on my plasma desktop!

And

gives me:

I tried booting into non graphic mode, cleansed /var/lib/sddm, but the problem persists.

Ok, I tried stopping another service - gpm - and it stops and starts correctly. So this looks like a bug with sddm, not openrc or plasma I suppose. I'll try opening a bug.

I confirm this is a bug with sddm-0.17.0

Version 0.15.0 works fine.

I've opened a bug, in the meantime if upstream doesn't fix this I suggest you check your systems for this bug ( by running rc-service xdm stop and checking if X actually stops) and if it is present it might be a good idea to downgrade to sddm-0.15.0 and mask 0.17.0 to avoid freezing your system by accident.
