A "film" on youtube portrays Mohammad in a negative light (e.g., pedo); Egypt and Libya go ape-shit, with radicals attacking and burning shit at the U.S. embassies.
Quote:
Cairo (CNN) -- Angry protesters attacked U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya and Egypt on Tuesday, citing in both instances an online film considered offensive to Islam.

In Cairo, several men scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy and tore down its American flag, according to CNN producer Mohamed Fadel Fahmy, who was on the scene.

In Libya, witnesses say members of a radical Islamist group called Ansar al-Sharia protested near the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, where NATO jets established no-fly zones last year to blunt ground attacks from then Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi.

The group then clashed with security forces in the city, blocking roads leading to the consulate, witnesses said.

The Libyan government notified the United States that an employee at the U.S. Consulate was killed, a State Department official told CNN.
Quote:
"One such breach of an embassy or consulate's walls or security on any given day would be tremendous news. ... The fact that two of them happened on the same day that is the 9/11 anniversary where Americans are remembering those that we lost, you have to ask yourself, what are American officials trying to understand about this and whether or not these two are related?" she asked.
Quote:
Several individuals claimed responsibility for organizing the demonstrations Tuesday, including Salafist leader Wesam Abdel-Wareth, who is president of Egypt's conservative Hekma television channel.
Quote:
Mohamed al-Zawahiri -- the brother of al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri -- added, "We called for the peaceful protest joined by different Islamic factions including the Islamicc Jihad (and the) Hazem Abu Ismael movement."
"We were surprised to see the big numbers show up, including the soccer Ultra fans," he said. "I just want to say, how would the Americans feel if films insulting leading Christian figures like the pope or historical figures like Abraham Lincoln were produced?"
He added that "the film portrays the prophet in a very ugly manner, alluding to topics like sex, which is not acceptable."

Arab Spring == Islamist revolution.

I'm so glad Obama supported this, and refused to support the Iranian uprising. Having a consistent anti-US policy in the middle East is one of Obama's great achievements.

US Ambassador to Libya killed.

Makes one think, if this was a targeted attack because everyone knows, "US Ambassador" means CIA regional commander.

No, the ambassador job is usually political patronage.
Not that ex-spies don't sometimes get the job, and a second or third pension with it.

FTFY. And: Yeah, because they just set alight to themselves. Which is far worse than attacking an embassy. *nods*

Quote:
(Reuters) - President Barack Obama vowed on Wednesday to "bring to justice" the Islamist gunmen responsible for a ferocious assault that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans

Hmmm. That sounds eerily similar to what Bush said, not long before we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq.

I wonder if we'll get to hear the Blackhawk Down -like story of what happened on the ground there.

Quote:
The U.S. consulate was overrun and torched in a military-style assault, the ambassador left lost and dying alone in the smoke while rescuers ran into a deadly ambush as they sought to save survivors. The attackers used guns, mortars and grenades. U.S. and Libyan officials said the attack may have been planned in advance.

Ya think?

Quote:
Two more Americans died when a squad of U.S. troops sent by helicopter from Tripoli to rescue the diplomats from the safe house came under mortar attack, said Captain Fathi al-Obeidi, commander of a Libyan special operations unit ordered to meet the Americans.

"It was supposed to be a secret place and we were surprised the armed groups knew about it," Sharif said of the safe house.

They were ambushed by mortars on the LZ. The enemy had to know where they were going in advance. They were either tipped off, or they have some very savvy intelligence guys working for them who have experience in heavy urban warfare. Opportunities to get that kind of experience are very scarce. I think they were tipped off.

See, Hillary and Barack were right. By helping out Arab Spring, we earned the trust and loyalty of these people, and now the Islamists don't want to hurt us any more. (The only reason they wanted to hurt us to begin with is because we had been mean to them, and now that we've gone around apologizing to everybody and helped them overthrow their leaders, they like us.)

Apparently the guy behind the film is a Coptic Christian (a Middle Eastern Christian) who didn't very thoroughly protect his identity, and the press has quickly ass-fucked him by outing him.

I get the sense that al Qaeda planned a bunch of activities to take place on 9/11 in various places, and that this film was just used to agitate mobs as part of that.

Naturally, the pussified are reacting by wanting to go after the film maker, rather than the terrorists. "Please don't hurt us! We'll stop exercising free speech!" :vomit:

For sure but who do you want to figure this out ?

People are not getting crazy over a film. They are getting crazy period.
They just need some pretext for getting crazy.
In some area in the world at some time it is a film, in some other area at some other time it's an iphone... a... post in OTW...

We have had our times when people were getting crazy over a book.

It is amazing to notice that a couple of centuries later, well... honestly... 90% of these books are... rubbish... and the remaining 10... lost under an heavy layer of dust because we no longer read them.

I own more than 1.000 books. I don't think I get more than half a dozen over which people have gone crazy.

On a side note, I was in UK in the times of the Satanic Verses...
For those who remember, a club had been funded in London grouping those who had managed to reach the 8th page of whateverr Rushdy's work...
Honestly... I can't tell if that book was blasphemous or not... but... bloody boring... for sure !

People get outraged over what others say about a book that none of them has read. Same with films, TV, cartoons....etc.

And even worse... about a book that might not actually exist... (Aristotle's Poetics as archetypal)

Which... could even well be the case with that film.

It's a stir, funny it was released pretty much to coincide with the anniversary of the twin tower thingy. I guess building a Mosque at Ground Zero is even more out of the question now.
