I just realized that I find it quite useful to have soft links for major gcc versions installed, i.e.: gcc-4.7 -> gcc-4.7.2, etc, and was wondering if anyone else thinks that this would be worth adding to the ebuilds? I know it's trivially easy to do manually, I just thought if other people thought it was a good idea too then it might be worth considering. I use it because on some development projects I want to use a particular major version of gcc and don't want upgrades to the minor version to break things.

If there is no interest in adding it to the ebuild, is it possible to add a custom post-install script in Portage so that it automatically happens on my own system? What would be the easiest way of automating it locally?

Thanks, cheers.
