Well i just set things up as a dual boot of w7 and gentoo...
so i was wondering if there was any truth to this.
my friend said that his teacher at a university warned him to not dual boot, saying it would mess up your memory (assuming he means RAM) but didn't go into the specifics.
Google didn't tell me about this, but my search on there yielded results that some people had problems with their memory when they dual booted a 32 bit operating system and a 64 bit operating system (because of 32 bit's memory restrictions)
In my head... an operating system that is currently not in use in a dual boot setup is nothing more than hard drive space. essentially... as i load up linux it doesn't need to even touch the partitions that windows is installed on, when i load up windows i only need to use the /boot partition of linux, which i also don't think does anything. except redirect me to bootmgr.
so... is there any truth to this? anyone know?
i only believe stuff like that when i see an explanation why. |

rabcor,
Dual booting might mess with your head but it won't hurt your RAM.
There is no need to stop at dual booting either. _________________ Regards,

I never dual boot. I boot one OS at a time
I would advise your friend to transfer from that university as soon as possible _________________ Good luck

I set up my laptop to dual boot Windows (for my wife) and Gentoo (for me) and it's definitely messed with my memory: I can't remember the last time I booted the thing into Windows.

thanks for your wonderful replies, had a good giggle.
in my head, it works like Bill said, you only boot one OS at a time, even if you have two seperately installed. |

I wouldn't trust Windows with my memory, but theoretically at least, your memory should be fine. _________________ CFLAGS=" -O999999" |
