|
|
Hey guys -
I've been putting off updating my installed udev-171-r6 to anything newer because my system always seems to break.
udev, udisks and a few other packages are pulled in when I unmask udev-171 and then I have issues launching xorg\kde.
I searched and found many posts with udev issues but nothing I felt was close to this.
Is there an upgrade thread or common info anyone can share that may help out?
If needed I can come back to this with my laptop nearby and post the exact errors I get once I pull in the new udev\udisk versions.
I just can't do it from this PC due to the issues I run into.
I've tried the update a few different times in the past few months hoping something in portage or one of the packages would change -
I always return to masking the packages and grabbing older versions so I can get back in the GUI.
I'm not an expert by any means, but am fairly familiar with gentoo and portage since I've been maintaining it at home for a few years.
Any help, links, ideas are appreciated. |

Is this the wrong area of the forum for this post or do I just need to post the errors as I go through the udev upgrade?
I thought for sure others would have had this issue.... |

See fork of udev - I use it, and I'd recommend it.
Is there any particular reason that you want to upgrade your udev? If not, stick with what you have. |

To be honest I don't care if udev is updated or not - the update is getting pulled in when I emerge -Duav world.
Since the issue had been happening for a few months I thought I'd try to move past it...
If I emerge -uav world I can still get some package updates which is great. I've let updates go too long before and it can be a pain to recover from.
I just didn't want this to get to that point. |

Probably one of those:
Code: | sys-fs/udisks:2
sys-apps/kmod
sys-fs/udev-init-scripts |
-> put them in package.mask
Also, wine[udisks] pulls in udisks:2 |

I reviewed my world file and found a few offending gnome packages that were pulling it in.
Once I removed the 2-3 files from there my regular emerge -Duav world went through without any issues. |
