Gentoo users are generally very skilled, for someone like my self who occasionally has programming projects that I'd like doing it would be really useful to have some way of 'advertising' these to the Gentoo Community.
Obviously having the forums swamped by commercial postings would be a bad thing, but the opportunity for Gentoo users to get paid project work would be a good thing... |

Gentoo gets enough flak for being registered as a For Porfit organization, I don't think this will help. Sounds like the start of something bad to me Sorry. |

This was something that we have discussed and so far decided against. This is probably more because there is no real pressing need as of now. We only rarely have job postings here, so it's not that big of a deal. It's certainly not enough to warrant a new forum.
However, there are things to consider even if we had a pressing need. First of all, there are better ways to organize a job bulliten board than to kludge it on top of phpBB. Secondly, I'm not sure that a support forum like this one should have the dual responsibility of job and resume postings. In my opinion, it would be really nice to help out all the gentoo users out there who are looking for skilled workers or interesting work, but this isn't the place or method to do it. It would be better if someone were to create a job search utility similar to www.monster.com or www.hotjobs.com that was gentoo specific. I would have no problem referring job postings to that site. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

I could code and host something like this. But do we really need it? There are only 12 votes yet. I don't think that a "Gentoo-Job-Marketplace" would get that much attention, would it? _________________ "To have a successful open source project, you need to be at least somewhat successful at getting along with people." -- Daniel Robbins |

This is another reason why I would prefer to not include something like that here. Not only do I think that it's not really appropriate to be placed here, but I'm not sure there's a lot of need for it. However, if there was need, I would love to see what you could make. It would even be cool if we could get it a gentoo.org official URL like: http://jobs.gentoo.org. However, we are still dreaming at this point.. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Provided some recuiter doesn't start posting regularly, the occaisional posting isn't a problem. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

why not just start a new forum for developers to announce their projects and what they need developers for? Not for money, but open source stuff?
I mean I could always use a way to ask for help with my distro |

Just a note pjp, but occasional job postings are apparantley not acceptable this thread started by me kind of lead me to believe that off the wall isn't a good place for job postings.

amasidlover, there have been several lucid reasons given that outline why job postings are frowned upon when posted on these forums. If you see a need for this type of thing, please feel free to create a solution on your own and link it to this thread. I'm sure the Gentoo community would like to have a place to go for job searching that highlights Gentoo opprotunities. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..
